If you’ve ever won a championship in a sport game, chances are you’ve skipped past the lackluster championship celebration that accompanies your victory. For most sports games these celebrations are just prerendered reel footage with your teams coat of paint slapped on the top.
Well EA Sports is looking to change up the status quo and give gamers a reason to not skip right into next season. New play by play man Gus Johnson will now do a team specific voice over telling the tale of the past season. If you win the Super Bowl as the New Orleans Saints, he’ll mention that they’re back to back winners as well as mentioning the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the region. If you win as the Lions he’ll talk about the team’s long suffering history.
As this is all going on, NFL Commissioner becomes the first head of a major sports league to add his likeness to the game as he hands the Lombardi Trophy to the winning team. The scene then shifts to the victory parade, and then President Obama meets the team on the South Lawn of the White House for the traditional team picture with the President.
All told, it’s a significant improvement for the sports game genre. Madden NFL 11 will be out on all the home consoles on August 10th.
