If you’ve got an XBOX Live subscription, now’s the time to re-up. Starting November 1st, the price goes up from $49.99 to $59.99 per year. Monthly subscriptions will also go up, jumping from $7.99 to $9.99, and three month subscriptions will go up from $19.99 to $24.99. The news was originall broken by Microsoft’s Major Nelson, who had the following to say about the subject:
“Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.”
If you’re currently an XBL member, Microsoft’s offering you a special deal to re-up now before the new pricing goes into effect. The special prices is$39.99, $10 off of the current price. You can sign up online here. You have until a minute before midnight Pacific Standard Time on Halloween (October 31st) to take advantage of the special pricing. If you’re as unlucky as I am, you had your XBL subscription auto renew within the last week and are totally screwed. Yay…..
In other XBOX news, our own Jason Rode is reporting that Microsoft has will be offering up a new controller for the XBOX 360. It will be silver and offer a modified d-pad that can be used either as the standard d-wheel offered on the current 360 controller, or a more traditional d-pad. More details as we get them.
