It’s the game that would not die despite a 10 year development cycle and the death of developer 3D Realms. But word had come today by way of the Wall Street Journal that Gearbox Software is officially working on bringing out Duke Nukem Forever. Not only are they working on it, but it’s expected to ship sometime this year.
Sure, we’re all a bit skeptical too based on the long and winding road this game’s development has had. But the game is supposedly in the polishing stages and will be shown at PAX Prime in Seattle. And an announcement about the future of the series is expected this Sunday at PAX.

One can only hope that with all time and money that 3D Realms put into it that they were pretty far along in the development and that Gearbox didn’t have a whole lot to do.
Interesting. So either 3D Realms had it nearly complete or Gearbox is just putting something on top of Borderlands engine? I’m interested to find out more.
