New Call of Duty Confirmed for 2012

Activision/Blizzard

In possibly the least surprising announcement in the course of video game reporting history, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has confirmed that there will be another Call of Duty game next near.  The announcement came during a conference all with investors yesterday, as Kotick discussed the expected companies expected 2012 lineup:

“As we focus on 2012, we have a strong product pipeline which features a minimum of two highly-anticipated new titles from Blizzard Entertainment, including Diablo III, and a new Call of Duty game from Activision Publishing,”

Obviously, we’ve all come to expect an annual release of Call of Duty games, with the franchise generally switching back and forth between developers Infinity Ward and Treyach.  As Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was Infinity Ward’s turn at the plate, it stands to reason that Call of Duty: Black Ops developers Treyarch would be next in line.  However, any further details on the next game in the Call of Duty franchise have yet to be released, and likely won’t be until sometime next year so as not to trample on the Modern Warfare 3 momentum.
