Apparently, the kids still like the Call of Duty. According to VGCHarts, the latest game in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, had a monstrous day one in sales pushing 9.3 Million copies. In case you were wondering, that would be the biggest day one launch in industry history.
With a 54% share of the sales, the XBOX 360 version of CoD:MW3 sold over 5 million copies, the first time a game has ever moved 5 million copies on day one. With a 42% share, the PS3 version has nothing to sneeze about either, pushing over 4 million copies. Since PC sales were not charted, the rest of the game’s sales were rounded out by the Wii version of the game, which at 4% would average out to about 370,000 units.
If you’re wondering how this compares to Call of Duty: Black Ops, the day one sales were up 33%, and almost equaled CoD:BO’s entire first week sales. Compared to the last Modern Warfare game in the series, first day sales were up a whopping 55%. Add in the numbers so far, and Call of Duty is dangerously close to topping 100 million units sold this console generation by the end of the week.
